Electric Counterpoint

This light sculpture was a commission by guitarist Jonathan Zwi for his performance of Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint at UMBC’s Livewire Festival. Written for Pat Metheny in 1987, Electric Counterpoint combines a live guitar part with previously-recorded tracks to create an intricate guitar orchestra. I designed the modular LED panels to complement Jonathan on stage in a radial pattern with him at the center, the polished floor of Linehan Concert Hall creating an impressionistic reflection of the lights surrounding him.
